Operation ‘Every Last Drop’

Now that Sample Killah is over it’s time to show my full-sized products some love. I’ve spoken previously about how overwhelmed I am with the amount of beauty products in my stash. It doesn’t help that my attention span when it comes to beauty products is close to zero and I get bored really easily. I get excited about new releases and don’t have enough self-restraint to delay purchases until I’ve used up what I already own. At the same time I hate wasting anything that I spent my hard-earned money on and as a result my old, half-used products end up stashed in the bathroom closet to collect dust.

So where am I going with this? You might’ve heard about Project Pan where makeup enthusiasts try to use certain makeup products consistently enough to finally finish them, “hitting pan” so to speak. There isn’t really an equivalent for non-makeup beauty products so I came up with the idea of Operation ‘Every Last Drop,’ a continuous effort to use up all my half-empty bath & body, skin care, and hair care products. There are also some makeup items on my list but my ADHD mostly focuses on those huge bottles of shampoo, body wash, and lotions so those are my priority.

Here are the rules that I decided to set up for myself during Operation ‘Every Last Drop’:

  • Use up all of the products on this list before the end of the year and toss what hasn’t been finished by then.
  • Don’t buy any new products of a specific type until all of the items from this list of that type have been used up. For example, don’t buy any new cleansers until all of the cleansers on the list have been used up.
  • Post a progress report once a month.

Easy enough, right? Let’s talk about my list of products I want to include in Operation ‘Every Last Drop.’

Bath & Body

Operation 'Every Last Drop' - Bath & Body

bliss Soapy Suds Body Wash + Bubbling Bath (16 fl oz, $18): I like things that smell nice so I tend to buy way more body wash (and lotion) than I actually need. This was one of those purchases and I just have to commit to using it up instead of jumping at every new thing that catches my eye (or nose rather).

Bath & Body Works Shower Gel and Body Lotion in Pear Blossom Air (10 fl oz, $12.50 each, to be discontinued): Another one of my many bath & body purchases.

Julep Bare Body Milk (6.8 fl oz, $24): I received this lotion in a recent Julep box but I have too many body lotions as is so I would like to use this one up to lighten the load.

Philosophy Body Scrub (6 oz, limited edition) and The Body Shop Blueberry Body Scrub (7.2 oz, limited edition): I don’t tend to use body scrubs very often. I like the idea of them but I don’t like the hassle that comes with using them. I just want these gone from my stash.

AHAVA Mineral Foot Cream (3.4 fl oz, $20): This is not a bad foot cream but it didn’t blow me away. I want to be able to move on to something better so this needs to be used up.

Pure Silk Moisturizing Shave Cream (5 oz, $1.49): I don’t tend to use shaving cream because I use razor blades that have a shave-gel bar built in. I’ve still been enjoying using this but at the same time it’s taking precious space away in my shower so I’m looking forward to finishing it.

Listerine Total Care Zero  Anticavity Mouthwash (33.8 fl oz, $5.99): I don’t even remember how long I’ve had this mouth wash. Over a year at least. And look at how little is left. It’s ridiculous. I really just need to use up the rest.

Skin Care

Operation 'Every Last Drop' - Skin Care

Murad Essential-C Cleanser (6.5 fl oz, $36): I actually really like this cleanser. It has just kinda fallen by the wayside and it’s time to finish off what little of it remains.

Murad Daily Cleansing Foam (5.1 fl oz, $28): When I revamped my skin care routine I stopped using foaming cleansers. This is still a pretty nice cleanser and during the summer it’s not too drying either so now is the perfect time to use it up.

AHAVA Facial Mud Exfoliator (3.4 fl oz, $27.50): Ever since switching to exfoliating toners I have stayed away from face scrubs so this one has just been sitting in my stash. It’s a bit ridiculous to hang on to it so I either need to use it up or toss it.

Kate Somerville Goat Milk Cream (1.7 fl oz, $65): I’m sooo close to finishing this cream but during Sample Killah it just got totally neglected. I actually already repurchased another tub so it’s time to just finish off the rest.

Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic (6.7 fl oz, $23.90): I’m really over the scent of this moisturizing toner and I don’t find it as soothing as others I’ve used in the past so it just needs to go.

Clinique Super City Block Oil-Free Daily Face Protector Broad Spectrum 40 SPF (1.4 fl oz, $22): I’ve explained previously how I prefer the City Block Sheer sunscreen over this one. Regardless, I just really need to finish it before cracking open the new tube of City Block Sheer I have waiting for me in my makeup drawer.

Hair Care

Operation 'Every Last Drop' - Hair Care

Living Proof Full Shampoo (8 fl oz, $24): I like the volume this shampoo gives my hair but it’s also pretty drying so I haven’t been using it very consistently.

L’Oréal EverCrème Intense Nourishing Shampoo (8.5 fl oz, $6.99): I bought this bottle in the US because I was so impressed by the one I bought in Germany but this one just isn’t quite as good for some reason.

Redken Hair Cleansing Cream Shampoo (10.1 fl oz, $15): I bought this not realizing that it contains sulfates. It’s not a bad clarifying shampoo but I’m ready to move on to something else.

TIGI Catwalk Session Series Transforming Dry Shampoo (5.2 oz, $19.95): This dry shampoo has been replaced by new favorite – the Batiste dry shampoos. This one still works great as a texturizer and there isn’t much left in the can so I just need to finish it up.

Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal Nourishing Styling Treatment (4.2 fl oz, $16.46): Hair oils weren’t really part of my routine up until recently. I’ve had this bottle for a couple of years and used it off and on so now that I discovered hair oils for myself I can finally work on using this one up.

Operation 'Every Last Drop' - Makeup

Jouer Matte Moisture Tint (1.7 fl oz, $38): I go this tube probably about a year ago so it’s nearing the end of its life span. I want to use it up before it expires.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion Anti-Aging (0.37 fl oz, $24): I don’t use eye shadow very often and don’t really need a whole lot of eye primer but this one has been opened for a while and is almost empty so I just want to finish it off.

Phew, this is quite a list but there are (almost) five months left in the year so this should be doable. I’m excited to further declutter my beauty stash and makes space for new and exciting purchases.

  1. This is an excellent project! I’ve set the same type of rules for myself – no doubling up unless it makes sense. No one can have just one lipstick. Lol :0) Looking forward to an update!
