Summer time, sun, beach. A few days weeks ago talked about the the importance of sun protection and today I want to review my favorite sunscreen: the Clinique City Block range.
The Clinique City Block sunscreens come with two sun protection factors. There is the City Block Sheer with SPF 25 and the Super City Block with SPF 40. City Block Sheer is a mineral sunscreen containing titanium dioxide and zinc oxide as its active. The Super City Block on the other hand contains a mix of mineral and chemical actives: octinoxate, octisalate, titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Both provide broad spectrum protection against UVA and UVB radiation.
Both of the City Block sunscreens are lightly tinted which works well for my light skin tone. The tint evens out my complexion and provides a great base for foundation. Both are marketed for use as a primer in addition to being a sunscreen and they do that job beautifully.
Another thing I like about the City Block sunscreens is that they contain a good dose of antioxidants to protect your skin from free radical damage.
The texture of these two sunscreens is quite different. City Block Sheer has a somewhat whipped consistency and application is effortless. It absorbs and dries down fairly quickly to a lovely matte finish without feeling heavy.
Super City Block is a lot harder to work with. The consistency is thinner, less like a mouse and more like a cream. It doesn’t absorb well and needs to be rubbed into the skin. It leaves a white cast during application which disappears after a few minutes. Due to all of these problems with the application of the Super City Block, the City Block Sheer is my clear favorite between the two.
The Clinique City Block Sheer Oil-Free Daily Face Protector SPF 25 and Super City Block Oil-Free Daily Face Protector Broad Spectrum 40 SPF are 1.4 fl oz each. They’re available from Sephora, Macy’s, Nordstrom, Clinique, and other retailers for $22.
