The July Decluttering Challenge: Sample Killah Week 3 Update

The July Decluttering Challenge- Sample Killah Week 3 Update

The third week of July is over and Sample Killah, hosted by the wonderful Kalyn Lord, is in the home stretch. I’m still making steady progress and I was able to finish some samples that I’ve been working on for a while (I’m looking at you, Fresh Seaberry Face Oil).

My hair care samples are a whole other story, though. I was a bit over-ambitious when I selected samples to use up this month. There are still so many products in my to-use box and I slowly but surly have to face reality and admit that I won’t be able to finish them all.

Nevertheless, I already surpassed my original goal of using up 50 samples so I decided to up my goal to 100 total samples used. Let’s see how I did this week.

  • Caudalie Make-Up Remover Cleansing Water (6.7 fl oz, $28): This was my first foray into micellar water and I don’t think it’s for me. It took quite a few cotton pads to get all my makeup off. I’ve been using it as a gentle cleanser in the mornings and I really liked it for that.
  • First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser with Red Clay (4.7 oz, $24): This is a really thick gel cleanser that is incredibly hard to work with.
  • Miracle Skin Transformer Hydroactive Microderm (1.7 fl oz, $34): I used this exfoliating cleanser a while back but it felt really rough on my skin so it just sat in a drawer since then. To finally use it up I decided to use it as a body scrub and it worked pretty well for that.

  • NARS Luminous Moisture Cream (1.7 oz, $62): This moisturizer was too thick for my liking.
  • Fresh Seaberry Moisturizing Face Oil (1.7 fl oz, $50): I like to use a facial oil at night but this wasn’t any better than any of the other ones I’ve tried in the past. The smell was a bit off-putting.
  • Dr. Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips (0.507 fl oz,$14.50 – not pictured): Words can’t express how much I hated this lip balm. It’s thick, sticky, greasy and doesn’t absorb. I’m so happy to finally be rid of this sample.
  • Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask (1 fl oz, $55): This face mask is supposed to give your skin “instant glow.” I didn’t really notice any of that but it did make my skin really soft.

  • 2 x Bumble and bumble Thickening Shampoo (8 fl oz, $24) & Conditioner (8 fl oz, $26): I don’t remember this doing anything special. I liked the conditioner better than the shampoo.
  • Goldwell Dual Senses Fade Stop Shampoo (25.4 fl oz, $30.50) & Detangling Conditioner (25.4 fl oz, $35.99): These were a bit thin for my liking but I really liked the scent.
  • Number 4 Reconstructing Masque (5.1 oz, $58): Lovely balm-like consistency and scent. Would purchase the full size in the future.

Total Samples Killed in Week 3: 25

Week 3 and still going strong. I don’t really have a clear plan of attack for this last week aside from just powering through and finishing as many samples as possible to hit my new goal of 100 samples used.

As always, wish me luck!

    1. Yeah, it’s such a brilliant project and I’m glad Kalyn Lord came up with it. It was the much needed kick in the butt I needed to clean out my sample stash.
