Love It Or Leave It? Empties #6

Looking back at my posting history the past few months, I realized that a few categories have fallen by the wayside, Empties being one of them. My trash bag is once again overflowing and I’m way overdue for a post.

I actually started writing this post almost a month ago but with my vacation and my parents being in town I never got around to finishing and posting it. That also means that this list doesn’t even include everything that I’ve finished since the last time I posted and a lot of the products were used up so long ago that I’m having a hard time remembering what I thought of the product while I was using it. I guess I just need to post more often, right?

For now, let’s talk about the empties that did make it into this post.

Skin Care

Love It Or Leave It? Empties #6 - Skin Care

Caudalie Vinosource S.O.S Thirst Quenching Serum

Full Size: 1 fl oz, $49
Verdict: Love It

This is a lovely moisturizing serum. It might not be potent enough for those with very dry or dehydrated skin but it was just enough to give my skin that extra boost of moisture it needed over the winter months.

Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief

Full Size: 1.7 oz, $37
Verdict: Like It

This used to be my holy grail moisturizer for years and years and while I still enjoy it very much, I’ve found other moisturizers that I like better. I would still recommend this for anyone with dry or dehydrated skin that’s looking for a lightweight gel moisturizer.

M2 High Potency Skin Refinish 20%

Full Size: 1.7 fl oz, $49.98
Verdict: Leave It

This mandelic and malic acid serum is supposed to help with acne breakouts and scaring. I didn’t really see a difference while using it, aside from its drying effects on my skin but it might work better for someone with more severe blemishes.

Avene Eau Thermale

Travel Size: 1.76 oz, $9
Verdict: Leave It

This is basically overpriced water in a bottle. I know a lot of people swear by it but I just wasn’t that impressed. It’s nice and refreshing but I’m simply expecting more from a moisturizing toner. I prefer a toner that includes hydrating and skin-repairing ingredients and this one doesn’t have either. What I did like was the fine mist this spray bottle produced.

Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Synchronized Complex (Discontinued and Reformulated)

Full Size: 0.5 fl oz, $55
Verdict: Leave It

I didn’t like this eye cream at all. It has a silicone texture that I don’t enjoy. I also didn’t really see any improvements in terms of fine lines or dark circles.

Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm

Full Size: 3.8 oz, $28.50
Verdict: Love It

I raved about this cleansing balm so many times before that I won’t bore you with it again. Suffice to say that it’s my preferred method for taking off my makeup at night and has been repurchased.

Love It Or Leave It? Empties #6 - Makeup

Lancôme Définicils High Definition Mascara

Full Size: 0.23 fl oz, $27.50
Verdict: Leave It

This mascara didn’t work for me at all. It didn’t give me any volume and smudged like crazy within a few hours of application.

Tarte Light, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara

Full Size: 0.24 fl oz, $20
Verdict: Leave It

I wasn’t really impressed with this mascara. It didn’t really do anything special for me. The brush was a bit hard to work with and it wore off pretty fast during the day.

theBalm Put A Lid On It

Full Size: 0.4 fl oz, $18
Verdict: Like It

I got this primer quite a while ago in one of my first few Birchbox. It’s nice but since I don’t wear eye shadow all that often I can’t really judge whether it performs any better than any of the other eyelid primers out there.

Clinique City Block Sheer Oil-Free Daily Face Protector SPF 25

Full Size: 1.4 oz, $22
Verdict: Love It

I have no idea why I took a picture of this sunscreen with my makeup empties when it technically belongs with skin care. Anyway, this is my favorite sunscreen by far: applies easily, tinted, no white cast, contains antioxidants, and works great as a primer. Of course, I already repurchased it.

Estée Lauder Sumptuous Bold Volume Lifting Mascara

Full Size: 0.21 fl oz, $26
Verdict: Love It

Great Mascara. The brush is curved ever so slightly which made it hug my lash line perfectly. However, I can’t tell from the pictures online if the brush design is the same for the full size one. As it is, this mascara ticked all the boxes for me.

Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Concealer

Full Size: 0.25 fl oz, $23
Verdict: Love It

I like to use this concealer for my under-eye area to cover up my dark circles. I purchased the full size when this sample ran out.

Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara

Full Size: 0.38 fl oz, $19.50
Verdict: Leave It

Another mascara that I didn’t really care for. The brush is very big and very dense which makes it really hard to get in between your lashes and transfer any mascara onto them.

Hair Care

Love It Or Leave It? Empties #6 - Hair Care

L’Oréal EverStrong Thickening Shampoo

Full Size: 8.5 fl oz, $6.99
Verdict: Love It

This is a really nice shampoo that gave my thin hair some oomph without being overly drying. It also helped balance my scalp’s oil production. I reviewed it previously here.

Batiste Dry Shampoo

Full Size: 6.73 fl oz, $7.99
Verdict: Love It

My holy grail dry shampoo. Do I need to say more?

Living Proof Full Thickening Cream

Full Size: 3.7 fl oz, $26
Verdict: Love It

Finally a product that is able to give my hair some body and volume without turning it into a tangled mess. You can find my initial review of it here.

Pureology Hydrate Light Conditioner

Full Size: 33.8 fl oz, $64
Verdict: Love It

Another holy grail product. It moisturizes really well without weighing my hair down. I started using it on recommendation of my hair dresser when my hair was in pretty bad shape and this conditioner pretty much fixed it right away.

Bath & Body

Love It Or Leave It? Empties #6 - Bath & Body

St. Ives Intensive Healing Body Lotion

Full Size: 21 fl oz, $5.49
Verdict: Love It

When it comes to body lotions there are only two things I look for: it has to be fast-absorbing and it has to have a light, pleasant scent, preferably something fruity. This one ticks both boxes so it’s a winner in my book.

Up & Up Cotton Rounds Regular

Full Size: 100 ct, ~ $1.00
Verdict: Love It

These are really nice cotton rounds. They are super soft, don’t fall apart during use, and the price just can’t be beaten.

Bath & Body Works Gentle Foaming Hand Soap

Full Size: 8.75 fl oz, $6s.50
Verdict: Love It

This Mandarin Blossom hand soap was part of Bath & Body Works limited edition Italian Collection. Another lovely scent from them.

I hope you all enjoyed this little review of my trash empties pile. Time to take out the recycling.

  1. Alright I’ve heard a bunch of people say they love that clinique cleansing balm, so now I’m SUPER curious haha. I’ve had clinique products break me out in the past but it was mostly moisturizers so maybe this wouldn’t? Gotta try it! :))

    1. Yeah, I know a lot of people have problems with their skin care products, especially the three-step system. But the cleansing balm is great. Just make sure to wash it off properly and it shouldn’t cause any irritation. I prefer to use a wash cloth, personally, which works great at removing all the last traces of it.
