Yes folks, yes I did it. After months of lurking I finally took the plunge and subscribed to Glossybox. My Subscription Addiction had an offer in their email newsletter that was just too good to pass up, paying $45 for a three-month subscription instead of the normal $60. I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to give Glossybox a whirl and see how much I like it before shelling out $21 for a monthly subscription.
I have to preface this review by saying that I did know what would be in the April box and I wasn’t blown away. However, I knew that there was a collaboration with Bergdorf Goodman in the works for the May box which I’m really excited about so I hope the other two boxes will knock my socks off.
Here is what I received in my first ever Glossybox.
Scent: Lavender + Chamomile
Full Size: 9 oz, $10
Sample Size: 2 oz, $2.22 value
Let’s start with one of the better products in this box, shall we? This body lotion smells really nice. It’s a bit on the thicker side which isn’t really all that great since we’re approaching summer. However, it absorbs nicely so it might not be a problem. I’ll definitely use it.
I have seen some subscribers complain that this can’t really be counted as a deluxe product since it’s sold at Walmart and I have to agree with them. Glossybox advertises itself as a subscription for high-end beauty brands so this lotion doesn’t fit the bill at all. However, this is probably one of the better items in this box which just goes to show how underwhelming the April box has been overall.
Shade: Vanilla Pink
Size: 0.32 fl oz, $24.50
I don’t really use lipgloss but I think the color looks lovely and it’s full-size. I will try to find it a nice home with someone that will get more use out of it.
Scent: Tea Olive Lime
Full Size: 11.5 fl oz, $18
Sample Size: 1 fl oz, $1.57 value
I love the scent of this body wash: very refreshing and prefect for summer. I’m not sure I would pay $18 for the full size but this will definitely get used.
Shade: Skinny Dip
Size: 0.46 fl oz, $15
This was the item that I was most excited about receiving in my box so you will probably understand my disappointment when I unwrapped it and saw the shade I received. This orange sparkly fireball is so not my color. It definitely seems more appropriate for the fall. What a bummer. I might try to swap it for a different color.
Size: 0.3 fl oz, $9
I don’t wear eye shadow all that often so I don’t really have much need for a eyelid primer. This one is apparently supposed to work very well with glitter eyeshadows so I might give it a try next time I want to use Dust from the Naked3 palette.
So, overall this wasn’t the most exciting start to my Glossybox subscription. I still got a few items that I liked but not enough to justify the price of the box. I hope to trade the other items for something I’d enjoy more. In the meantime I’m excitedly looking forward to the May Bergdorf Goodman box.
