Lately my Birchboxes have been arriving super early which is a-ok with me. Nonetheless, I couldn’t help but sneak a peak at the spoilers. I was really hoping to get a sample of theBalm How ‘Bout Them Apples? Lip and Cheek Palette because I don’t own any cream blushes and they looked like some great colors to try. However, no such luck for me. On the bright side my box contained not only 5 but a total of 6 different products which is pretty awesome. This was another box with a nice mix of samples: skin care, hair, body, makeup, and two lifestyle extras.
Full Size: 1.6 fl oz, $42
Sample Size: 0.34 fl oz, $8.93 value
“Both a moisturizer and a broad-spectrum SPF 30, this light yet powerful serum fights the signs of premature aging—think fine lines and sunspots—and prevents future photo-damage from UV rays. Built for year-round use, it’s great for layering under foundation. The mattifying formula can also stand alone on the days you’re not wearing makeup.”
I’m really happy with the Clinique City Block Sheer Oil-Free Daily Face Protector that I’ve been using lately. This one has a bit of a higher SPF so I plan on giving it a try as we transition into spring. My last experience with Supergoop! and its eye cream wasn’t the best as it was very heavy and left a white cast. This sunscreen seems pretty light-weight which will be good for using under makeup but it’s untinted so I have to see how it fares in terms of the dreaded sunscreen ghost face.
Shade: Shortcake, a neutral pale peach
Full Size: 0.05 fl oz, $8
“These pretty glosses have been best sellers for years, and it’s easy to see why: The sheer pink-toned hues are universally flattering and the pen-style applicator makes them easy to apply. Plus, the built-in vitamin A, C, and E keep lips from drying out.”
I think that this is a very pretty neutral color and it’s full size as well. Unfortunately, I hardly ever wear lip gloss and thanks to Birchbox I have enough of them to last me for years. I’ll probably end up offering this as a swap item so it doesn’t just end up in a drawer collecting dust.
Full Size: 2 fl oz, $24
Sample Size: 0.1 fl oz, $1.20 value
“The lightweight oil helps hair build resiliency as it boosts vibrancy, shine, and color. The amino sugars in agave soothe damaged hair and infuse it with moisture. This fragrant healing oil treatment is also packed with plenty of other natural conditioning ingredients to keep hair soft and sleek: vanilla, coconut, and baobab seed oil, to name a few. And it’s free of the stuff that’s not so good for your locks: parabens, sulfates, and phthalates.”
Since my hair is so fine it tends to get greasy pretty easily (thank god for dry shampoo) so I’m always hesitant to using oil on it. Moreover, I don’t particularly like the packaging of this sample as I would be afraid to dispense too much and not being able to reseal it. This is another item I might just end up swapping.
Full Size: 8 fl oz, $16
Sample Size: 1.5 fl oz, $3 value
“This natural hydrator is loaded with antioxidant-rich botanicals like red tea, soy, ginkgo biloba, grape seed, and milk thistle. Naturally derived glycerin and honey provide instant moisture, with a hydrating boost from brassica plant extract. Always cruelty-free, this formula comes to you free of parabens, phthalates, petrol-derived ingredients, mineral oil, urea, DEA, TEA, and propylene glycol.”
This is a really generous sample size that will probably last for a few applications. The scent didn’t blow me away but it wasn’t unpleasant either – earthy but not overpowering. I’m sure this will get used.
Flavors: Organic African Nectar, Green Tea Tropical, Vanilla Bean
Full Size: 15 pouches, $9.95
Sample Size: 3 pouches, $1.99 value
“Whether you’re a tea aficionado or a weekend water-heater, these hand-picked whole leaf blends will add a unique flair to your brewing collection. All five flavors are made with natural ingredients, and packed with antioxidants, blending organic tea leaves, dried fruits, and spices in a silken biodegradable pouch. Each satchel is cleverly marked with its caffeine content and brew time, ensuring you always make the perfect cup.”
Tea again… I’m not particularly upset about it since I love tea and the flavors sounds amazing this time (as opposed to January). I’d rather get a beauty sample than tea though so I tweaked my profile a bit in the hopes of getting less tea overall.
Flavor: Cherry Tango
Sample Size: 0.375 oz
I’d never turn down chocolate so this was a nice addition to my box.
All in all I think that this was a good box but it didn’t blow me away. The total value of my box was just over $20 which isn’t too bad. I really wish it was possible to opt for less lip products in your Birchbox since I already have plenty and don’t use them enough. I’m excited to list the few items I won’t use and see what I can swap for them.
