Birchbox – February 2014

To find out more about what Birchbox is click here.

My February Birchbox arrived extra early this month but the weather has been so gloomy that I had to wait until the weekend to take some decent pictures. This month’s box was curated in collaboration with US Weekly and came in a charming red wrapper and red tissue paper, perfect for Valentine’s Day.

Birchox - February 2014 - Wrapper

Pretty!

My box contained a nice mix of products: skin care, hair care, a perfume sample, and a nail polish. I’m really happy about the variety of things.

Birchox - February 2014

Previse HydroMilk

Full Size: 2 fl oz, $48
Sample Size: 0.17 fl oz, $4.08 value

Birchox - February 2014 - Previse HydroMilk

“Antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, and botanical extracts work to fight all telltale signs of aging. Essential fatty acids restore skin’s elasticity. Free of parabens, petroleum, silicones, and synthesized oils, this lightweight lotion glides on smoothly without leaving an oily residue.”

I’ve turned into somewhat of a skin care fanatic as of late (if you haven’t noticed already) so I was happy to see this moisturizer in my Birchbox. I’m not a huge fan of this packaging so I might just decant it into a sample jar. Looking forward to giving it a try.

Bain de Terre passion flower Color Preserving Shampoo and Conditioner

Full Size: 13.5 fl oz each, $12 and $13.50
Sample Size: 1.7 fl oz each, $1.51 and $1.70 value

Birchox - February 2014 -Bain de Terre passion flower Color Preserving Shampoo and Conditioner

“This intensely nourishing, paraben-free shampoo is formulated with a powerfully conditioning and restorative blend of argan and monoi oils. Proven to maintain the vibrancy of color-treated hair by 85% (after 18 washes or between color services), it also has a lingering passion flower fragrance that we love.”

“This rich conditioner harnesses the power of natural botanical extracts and Bain de Terre’s signature blend of argan and monoi oils. Regenerative argan oil leaves hair shiny and smooth, while monoi oil targets follicles to provide deep hydration and soft, silky results.”

I find it a bit ironic that this range is targeted toward color treated hair but the shampoo contains Sodium Laureth Sulfate. I highlight my hair which is already pretty drying and damaging so I try to avoid shampoos with sulfates. However, this set smells amazing so I will give it a try anyway.

Joan Vass L’eau de Améthyste

Full Size: 1.7 fl oz, $75
Sample Size: 0.05 fl oz (estimated), $2.21 value

Birchox - February 2014 - Joan Vass L’eau de Améthyste

“Top notes of star ruby grapefruit and Italian bergamot meet middle notes of red currant, ylang ylang, and rose oil. Rounding out the scent are slightly sweet, earthy bottom notes like patchouli, vanilla tincture, and vetiver.”

I don’t mind getting perfume samples in my Birchboxes. This one is a light floral, a bit sweet. I really like it.

Ruby Wing Color Changing Nail Polish

Shade: Ride ‘Em Cowgirl
Full Size: 0.5 fl oz, $10
Sample Size: 0.25 fl oz, $5 value

Birchox - February 2014 - Ruby Wing Color Changing Nail Polish

“Formulated with SolarActive® Technology, each polish transitions from one shade to another as soon as you step out into the sunlight and come into contact with UV rays. Walk back indoors, and your nails will return to the original color. Each Ruby Wing polish is non-toxic, vegan, and environmentally safe.”

I’m intrigued by the concept of this nail polish. The golden glitter will change to red under UV light. I’m very much looking forward to giving it a try.

This was a nice Birchbox. The value was under $15 which is pretty low but I like the products I received and will use all of them.
