Reflecting upon 2013 and Resolutions for 2014

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope 2014 will be fabulous for all of you.

At the beginning of this new year it’s nice to take a minute to reflect on all that has happened in 2013.

This past year has been full of highlights.

It was a year of great concerts. I saw STOMP and the New York City Ballet touring, and I finally got to see Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco live in concert for the first time.

It was a year of me pursuing my interests. I started learning French and Spanish. I took a drawing class at the local art museum and I started this blog.

It was year of awesome travels. I took a road trip with the very best boyfriend to Columbus, OH. We went to Germany together and he got to meet my family and friends, and saw my hometown.

It was a year of big life changes. I got to celebrate two weddings. I took a new position. Most importantly, I finally moved in with the very best boyfriend.

It wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies but it was a darn good year.

I also thought of a few things that I would like to accomplish this upcoming year.

  • I would like to post more regularly and cover a wider variety of topics. I would like to do more reviews and try my hand at posting swatches of makeup products. In the past I haven’t had much luck at taking good pictures of swatches so I would like to get better at that.

  • I just started in my new position about a month ago but I’ve been with this company for almost three years so I would like to find out what it takes to get a promotion and work toward that goal.

  • I already contribute a good amount to my retirement account and I would like to increase my contribution over the next year.
  • This past year I finished saving up six months of living expenses in an emergency fund. This upcoming year I would like to keep it up so that I have enough money saved up for what lies ahead, may it be a new car, a house, getting married, or having kids.
  • I would like to make better purchasing decisions. Sometimes I tend to make purchases because I think it’s a good deal or because the store offers a nice gift with purchase (Sephora, I’m looking at you). I would like work on saying “No” when I don’t actually need the product.

  • Sometimes life gets a bit hectic so I would like to spend more quality time with the very best boyfriend, friends, and family.
  • I would like to read more books. I only read less than a handful of books this past year and I would like to change that.
  • In the mornings, I would like to take the time to do one special thing for myself, like putting on earrings, putting on eye makeup, or curl my hair.
  • I’ve never been on a float trip and although the very best boyfriend and I have talked about it in the past it has never worked out. This year I would like to finally make it happen.
  • I would like to spend more time on learning French and Spanish.

  • No surprise here: I would like to eat healthier and exercise more. As part of this I would like to cook more at home. In some respects I already got a head start with this one. We’ve been using Blue Apron to cook more at home and I’ve been watching my portions. So far I already lost a few pounds. Yay.

  • I would like to stay more organized and keep the apartment declutter. As part of this I would like to go through my clothes and makeup and get rid of what I don’t want or need anymore. In addition, I would like to start using up some of my skincare stash.
  • The very best boyfriend and I have been living together for 8 months now but there’s still a lot of things the need to be done. I would like to do some more decorating, putting up shelves, pictures, and curtains, and paint.

    1. Thank you. It took quite a while but I’m so happy that it’s finally done and I have the income available for other savings goals.
I’ve been following your blog for a while and you seem well on your way to meet that goal.I really like reading about your suggestions and following your progress. It’s very inspirational.
      Thanks for following!
