I just realized that it’s been a long time since I posted a nail polish review. BeautyBrands started to carry Butter London a while back and since I heard really good things about this brand. I also had a coupon so I decided to pick up one of their nail polishes. Out of the limited selection that was available in the store, MacBeth was the color that spoke to me the most. While coral may seem more like a spring or summer color I still find it versatile enough to be worn year round.
This nail polish was pretty easy to work with. It was a bit unusual to me that you pull off the square cap to reveal a small round handle. I like the larger handle of the OPI bottles better because I can get a better grip on it which makes it easier to navigate. It’s certainly a personal preference.
The coverage wasn’t all that great. I prefer opaque creme colors to jelly colors and this one definitely falls into the second category. The picture below shows three coats and you can still clearly see the white of my nail tips.
The wear time was pretty average about 4-5 days. This picture was taken after four days and you can clearly see some tip wear. I also had some chipping on other fingers as well.
Now, some of you may be wondering where you have seen this color before. MacBeth is basically a pretty good dupe for OPI’s My Chihuahua Bites! Once I got home and compared the two next to each other I realized how similar the two colors actually are. It explains why I was drawn to this polish but is still a bummer.
You can see in the picture below how much those colors look alike. I applied My Chihuahua Bites! to my index and middle finger while my ring finger and pinky show MacBeth. My Chihuahua Bites! is just a tad more orange while MacBeth is more pink. Moreover, My Chihuahua Bites! has better coverage.
Ultimately, I couldn’t justify owning two nail polishes that are that much alike. While I liked the color of MacBeth just a bit better I prefer OPI’s coverage. Moreover, OPI is quite a bit more affordable at $9 for 0.5 fl oz while Butter London is $15 for only 0.4 fl oz. Overall, I’m not convinced that Butter London nail polishes are worth the high price tag. Had I not had a coupon I’m not sure I would’ve made this purchase to begin with. That’s why I decided to return MacBeth.
