Trash or Treasure? Empties #2

It seems that over the past month I’ve been using up products left and right so I figured it was time for another empties post.

Body Care

Trash or Treasure? Empties #2 - Body Care

OPI Expert Touch Laquer Remover

Full Size: 4 oz, $5.95
Verdict: Trash

This was by no means a bad nail polish remover but it’s also nothing special. I can find something just as good at a third of the price. I got it free with a coupon at BeautyBrands but I wouldn’t purchase it myself.

AHAVA Mineral Botanic Body Lotion

Scent: Hibiscus & Fig
Full Size: 13.3 fl oz, $26
Verdict: Trash

I liked this lotion well enough. It’s lightweight, absorbs really well and has light, pleasant scent. Was it $26 worth of awesome? Probably not. There are so many other good and affordable lotions out there that I’d rather try something different.

AHAVA Mineral Botanic Cream Wash

Scent: Hibiscus & Fig
Full Size: 17 fl oz, $23
Verdict: Trash

I feel the same way about this body wash than I do about the matching body lotion. It was nice but nothing outstanding. I wouldn’t spend $23 on it again.

Bath & Body Works Gentle Foaming Hand Soap

Scent: Fresh Picked Cherries
Full Size: 8.75 fl oz, $5.50
Verdict: Treasure

I’m a huge fan of the Bath & Body Works Foaming Hand Soaps. I like the variety of scents and the fact that they’re foaming is just awesome. I’ll probably be buying these for as long as they make them.

100% Pure Nourishing Body Cream

Scents: Cabernet Grape and Coconut
Full Size: 8 fl oz, $15
Verdict: Treasure

These were some samples I got in a Birchbox a few months back and recently found in one of my makeup bags. I like that this lotion is 100% natural, vegan, and gluten-free. It absorbs well and doesn’t feel sticky and the scents are amazing. I’m not one for coconut so I won’t purchase that one but that Cabernet Grape scent was delicious. It reminded me of grape blow pops and it lingered around the whole day. This range has a whole bunch of other scent choices that I would love to try out.

Jergens Shea Butter Deep-Conditioning Moisturizer

Full Size: 26.5 oz, $7.99
Verdict: Undecided

I got this sample in a magazine. I can’t really say much about it because the sample was tiny. There wasn’t even enough for one full application. However, this lotion seemed pretty moisturizing, it absorbed quickly and I liked the smell which had just a hint of vanilla. Since the sample came with a coupon I figure that it would be worth a try to get the full size.

Skin Care

Trash or Treasure? Empties #2 - Skin Care

Balea Anschmiegsame Reinigungstücher (Gentle Cleansing Towelettes)

Full Size: 25 ct, 1.50EUR (circa $2)
Verdict: Treasure

For the longest time these were my favorite makeup remover wipes. I would always have my parents bring me a bunch when they would visit from Germany. They do a great job at removing makeup and don’t leave any weird residue. I would have to say, though, that I like the Yes to Blueberries ones better because they have a softer cloth. So for the time being I’ll stick to those.

Yes to Blueberries Cleansing Facial Towelettes

Full Size: 25 ct, $5.99
Verdict: Treasure

I already raved about these makeup remover wipes here. I still love them as much as I did when I first purchased them. I will definitely buy them again. In fact, I already purchased a new package.

Murad Essential-C Cleanser

Full Size: 6.75 fl oz, $36
Verdict: Treasure

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite cleansers. It has a light orange scent and is very refreshing. I like to use it in the morning as a wake up call for my skin. I already got a bigger size as a gift with purchase with my last Murad order.

Murad Advanced Active Radiance Serum

Full Size: 1 fl oz, $89
Verdict: Undecided

I’m still on the fence about this product. I did see a small difference after applying it, mainly that my skin seemed brighter and more radiant. However, I’m not sure it justifies the $89 price tag. I have a few other serums I want to try but I may come back to this one in the future.

BECCA Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector

Full Size: 1.35 oz, $36
Verdict: Trash

I didn’t like this primer at all. It was very drying and made me break out. It has a thick consistency, almost like paste, which makes it hard to spread. This may be a good primer for people with oily skin but for me it didn’t work.

Murad Eye Lift Illuminator

Full Size: 0.06 fl oz, $35
Verdict: Trash

This concealer didn’t really do anything for me. It didn’t cover my dark circles one bit. On a positive note it did feel pretty moisturizing.

Hair Care

Trash or Treasure? Empties #2 - Hair Care

Miss Jessie’s Original Crème de la Crème Conditioner

Full Size: 12 fl oz, $16
Verdict: Trash

I received this sample in my last Birchbox. Contrary to this conditioner’s claims I didn’t find it to be very nourishing. I also didn’t care for the scent. To me it smells just like soap. I did like that it worked well with my styling products. Some conditioners make my hair lie flat no matter how much styling product I use. Nevertheless, I probably wouldn’t buy the full size of this conditioner.

Living Proof Full Shampoo

Full Size: 8 oz, $24
Verdict: Treasure

This shampoo works really well at giving my hair lift and volume. It’s very cleansing and can easily get too drying so I use it in conjunction with other, more nourishing shampoos and try to avoid my ends. I already purchased the full size of this shampoo during my last Ulta haul.

Living Proof Full Root Lifting Spray

Full Size: 5.5 oz, $26
Verdict: Treasure

This spray did a pretty good job at giving my roots some volume. It also helps to smooth flyaways. When I use this product I basically don’t need to use any hair spray. I would buy this again but right now I have many other root lifting sprays to use up.

Matrix – Biolage Colorcarethérapie Color Care Shampoo and Color Bloom Mask

Verdict: Trash

I didn’t really care for this shampoo and mask combo. The mask is by no means nourishing enough to deserve that name. Even as a conditioner it only does a mediocre job. The shampoo is ok but nothing special. I wouldn’t buy the full size of these two products.

So here you go. I’m happy that I can finally remove this bucket of trash from my bedroom and put it into the recycling bin. I’m currently trying to use up a bunch of samples so I’ll probably be able to write another empties post soon.
