Even though the package tracking said that I wouldn’t receive my Birchbox until Monday it already made its way into my mailbox. Yay! I’m so happy I don’t have to wait until the beginning of next week. I’m just too impatient.
The theme of October’s box is “Beauty Buzz” highlighting “award winners, celeb favorites and up-and-comers.” I loved that the Birchbox Find, the ChapStick Hydration Lock, was packed in a cute plastic Ziploc bag. This is what was in my October Birchbox:
Shade: Floating Rose
Size: 0.34 fl oz, $14
“Sticky lip gloss is high up on our list of beauty pet peeves, right next to cakey concealer and smudgy mascara. One gust of wind, and your hair is stuck all over your lips. No thanks, we’ll pass. We’ve become pretty picky about lip products, and these superlight, refreshing glosses make the cut. Created by the color pros at POP Beauty, they add a wash of sheer color and a high dose of shine, without that goopy, sticky feeling we all know too well.”
This description is hilarious considering how sticky this lip gloss is. Have the gals at Birchbox even tried it? Beside that, though, the color is cute – a nice neutral rose – and the applicator surely is unique. It smells of peppermint and tingles a bit on my lips. I’m not sure, though, how much I would really use it because I’m not a huge fan of lip glosses to begin with.
Sample Size: 1 fl oz, $1.33 value
Full Size: 12 fl oz, $16
“This light blue cream conditioner is loaded with softening ingredients that help tame even the most unruly ringlets and frizziest waves. But rather than softening your hair’s natural bounce, it just enhances it—all the manageability, with none of the flatness.”
This conditioner is designed for curly-haired girls which I’m just the opposite. I would be afraid that it would be too heavy for my thin hair but it can also be used as a deep-conditioning hair mask so I might try it for that. There seems to be quite a bit of product in this packet so I will probably get two or three applications out of it.
Sample Size: 1 fl oz, $6.52 value
Full Size: 3.3 fl oz, $21.50
Sample Size: 1 cloth, $3 value
Full Size: 2 cloths, $6
“This creamy cleanser contains moisturizing cocoa butter, and two of nature’s best astringents: eucalyptus essential oil and rosemary. These plant oils lift dirt off the skin’s surface without disrupting the natural barrier function. With the use of the brand’s 100 percent cotton muslin cloth, skin is gently polished without irritation—perfect for even the most sensitive of complexions.”
I’m very intrigued by the concept of this cleanser and exfoliating muslin cloth. I’m pretty happy with the cleansers I’m using right now but, nevertheless, very excited to give this set a try.
Sample Size: 0.06 fl oz, $1.73 value
Full Size: 3.4 fl oz, $98
“The perfume opens with a burst of freshness from an intimate blend of calming citrus and a light woodsy floral, giving away to playful hints of cognac. Its middle notes—jasmine and Damascenia rose—give the fragrance a carefree, summery vibe. Finally, warm base notes of spicy woods and rich leather add a seductive finish.”
This is a brand that I haven’t heard of before so, of course, I had to try it out straight away. The scent is very fresh, almost a bit masculine. It’s not bad but I usually prefer more fruity or floral perfumes.
Size: 0.15 oz, $2.99 estimated value
“Clinically proven to hydrate lips, the eight-hour balm also comes packed with antioxidant CoQ10 and healing vitamin E. “
I guess a girl can never have enough lip balms, right? Unfortunately, it takes me for-ev-er to use up any one lip balm and I already have more than I can count. This one does have a nice vanilla scent which I like.
At just under $30 value this wasn’t the best box ever. Overall, the product I’m most excited about is the Liz Earle cleanser and muslin cloth. Most of the other products I’m not too stoked about but I’ll find good use for them.
