Trash or Treasure? Empties #1

I’ve been meaning to write an Empties post for a while because I always love to read what other people have used up. Seeing that my Empties bin has been overflowing I figured it was about time to write my own post about the topic. I decided to judge each product as “trash” or “treasure” based on whether I would purchase it again. So without further ado, here are the products I used up recently.

Makeup

Trash or Treasure? Empties #1 - Makeup

Jouer Matte Moisture Tint

Full Size: 1.7 oz, $38
Verdict: Treasure

This is one of the staples in my makeup routine and my favorite discovery I made through Birchbox so far. I already purchased a new tube but this one has been lasting me for a good half year. My favorite things about this tinted moisturizer are the matte finish and the coverage. It makes my skin look great.

Too Faced Size Queen Mascara

Full Size: 0.5 oz, $21
Verdict: Treasure

My go-to mascara. I already raved about it in my August Favorites post and I plan on writing a more thorough review about it this weekend. I have to admit that I acquired somewhat of a stash because BeautyBrands had a gigantic sale on this mascara a few months back. They will last me for well over a year.

Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45

Full Size: 1.5 oz, $39
Verdict: Trash

I wrote a review about this BB cream here. I really wanted to like it but it just wasn’t for me. It made my face look too oily. I won’t purchase the full size.

Skin & Body Care

Trash or Treasure? Empties #1 - Skin and Body Care

The Body Shop Cranberry Body Butter (Limited Edition)

Full Size: 6.9 oz, $20
Verdict: Trash

I’m not a huge fan of body butters. They’re just too greasy for my taste. I got this one as a Christmas present and didn’t use it for years. Earlier this year I finally decided to use up all of my body creams and lotions. As I don’t like this one on my skin I’ve been using it on my feet every night and morning. The very best boyfriend aways called this “buttering my feet.” After months and months this tub is finally used up. Hooray. I loved the smell but the consistency just isn’t for me.

bareMinerals Deep Cleansing Foam

Full Size: 4.2 oz, $20
Verdict: Trash

I have to admit that this cleanser is technically not totally empty. I’ve been trying; I really, really have. But I just couldn’t anymore. I’ve been using this cleanser for-ev-er. It has this paste-like consistency that once you add water foams up. You only need a pea-size amount to produce a ton of lather. Don’t get me wrong: this is by no means a bad cleanser. I think it would be great for people that have normal skin and no specific skin concerns they want to address. For me it just didn’t help at all with my breakouts. I would use it every morning and every night and my skin condition would not improve whatsoever. In addition, it made my skin pretty dry when using it in the shower (but only when using it in the shower). So yeah, just one of those products that didn’t work for me.

Dove Go Fresh Rebalance Anti-Perspirant & Deodorant

Full Size: 2.6 oz, $3.89
Verdict: Treasure

I already raved about my love for Dove Go Fresh deodorants in my September Favorites post. This one is just as effective but the plum and sakura blossom scent isn’t quite as good as the Restore (blue fig and orange blossom) one.

The Body Shop Papaya Body Butter

Full Size: 6.9 oz, $20
Verdict: Trash

Another body butter that I received as a gift. This one was a bit lighter in consistency than the cranberry one but I still only used it on my feet. Since it was only a sample size tube I was able to use it up much quicker. Again, lovely smell but I just didn’t like that it was a butter.

Hair Care

Trash or Treasure? Empties #1 - Hair Care

Puerology Pure Volume Shampoo

Full Size: 8.5 oz, $27
Verdict: Trash

I’m a huge fan of Pureology but this shampoo just missed the mark for me. It wasn’t as volumizing as I was hoping and at this price-point I was simply expecting more. In addition, I didn’t like the scent. It is described as a signature aromatherapy blend of amber, mandarin and ylang ylang. To me it smells a bit like men’s cologne and that’s not really my cup of tea. I do, however, like that this shampoo is sulfate-free, vegan, cruelty-free and that the brand supports sustainability.

Catwalk Session Series Transforming Dry Shampoo

Full Size: 5.2 oz, $19.95
Verdict: Treasure

This has been my go-to dry shampoo lately. You don’t need to apply much to get rid of greasy roots. It’s clear so it won’t leave a white residue like some other dry shampoos. It also adds some texture to my fine hair. My only complaint is that although I like the scent it tends to linger throughout the day, being just a bit too strong and noticeable for my liking. Nevertheless, I will definitely repurchase once I use up the TIGI Bed Head Oh Bee Hive! Matte Dry Shampoo that I got for free during my last BeautyBrands visit.

That’s it for me. What products have you used up lately?
