Sephora by OPI – Frankly, I Don’t Give A-dam

I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect gray nail polish shade for the longest time. Well, more like half a year really. It all started when I discovered gray as my go-to neutral. Shoes, purses, cardigans – you name it, I’d get it in gray. When I started to do my nails more regularly earlier this year I also wanted get a nice gray shade. I probably bought five gray and silver nail polishes but nothing fit exactly what I was looking for. Either the color was too light and sheer, or too dark, or too glittery, or something else.

That’s when I stepped foot in my local Sephora and saw that they had their own line “Sephora by OPI” and they had a gray nail polish that looked just like what I was looking for. I’m a huge fan of OPI nail polishes mostly because they’re so easy to work with. Even when I first started to do my own nails I was able to achieve a great manicure. And their polishes hold up for a long time. So I thought that I couldn’t go wrong by getting something from the Sephora by OPI line. I wasn’t disappointed.

The color is exactly what I was looking for. It’s described as a light gray but in my opinion it’s pretty much in the middle, not too light and not too dark. I also feel like it doesn’t have any clear undertones. Maybe a liiiiiiiittle bit of brown but overall it looks pretty “clean” to me.

Since this was my first purchase of a Sephora by OPI color I can only compare it to other OPI nail polishes. The brush is a lot thinner than the ones in the OPI bottle. This has its up and downs. I needed more strokes per nail but I was able to be more precise. The consistency of the polish is somewhat thinner than other OPI polishes. This results in the color going on kinda blotchy and streaky. I need two coats to get an opaque finish. Even then I can see streaks when looking at my nails against the light, as you can see from the picture below.

I haven’t tried applying three layers yet but I wonder if that would make a difference. Besides the coverage I was pleasantly surprised by how long the polish lasts. When using a base and a top coat I usually don’t get any chips and only some wear on the tips after day three or so. Pretty good, huh?

All in all I’m super happy with the color and I would give other Sephora by OPI nail polishes a try. Unfortunately, I was told that they are discontinuing the line but because of that you can get them on clearance right now so I’ll probably pick up a few more colors next time I’m at Sephora. Any recommendations?
