Birchbox has teamed up with Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) for two limited edition boxes that highlight finalists and winners of the 2013 CEW Beauty Awards. This box, titled “Prestige Headliners”, contained six department store products while the other box “Mass Appeal” contained drugstore brands. The Birchbox pages for the two boxes are here and here, respectively. Unfortunately, they are both sold out. Here is what the Prestige Headliners box looked like:
The box contained the following products:
- Living Proof Prime Style Extender
Sample size: 30ml/1oz, $4 value
Full Size: 150ml/5oz, $20
“A first-of-its-kind, style-extending hair primer. Prime extends hair styles 2x longer, while enabling you to go longer between shampoos with fewer touch-ups.”
I’ve heard really good things about this brand and I’ve been wanting to try their full (volumizing) line for a while so I was very excited when I saw that there would be a sample of this product in this box. I’ve not gotten a chance to try this yet but I’ll make sure to review it here as soon as I do.
- LA FRESH Eco-Beauty Oil-Free Face Cleanser, Scented
Sample Size: 2 wipes, $0.67 value
Full size: 30 wipes, $9.99
I used one of the two wipes to remove my makeup the other evening before going to bed. I thought they did an okay job. It didn’t remove my makeup as easily as some other wipes I’d used before. The smell was nice though. I like that the wipes I received were individually wrapped which is great for traveling. Not sure if I would spend almost $10 on a full package considering that these wipes don’t remove makeup very well.
- IT Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Brow Pencil
Size: 0.16g/0.0056oz, $24
I like the concept of this brow pencil. In addition to the pencil it also has a brush to help smooth out the lines and the color is supposed to adapt to many different brow colors. The pencil has an oval shape which is supposed to make for a more natural looking line. However, I’m lucky in that my eyebrows are very dark and thick so absolutely no penciling in necessary — on the contrary. I think I may give this pencil to my grandma who is struggling with thin eyebrows.
- JULEP Essential Cuticle Oil
Size: 8.8ml/0.29oz, $18
This product is by the same company that does the Maven box which is a subscription service for nailpolishes and other related beauty items. A lot of people really seem to like this company so I was excited to have not only one but two products by them in this box (see below for the review of the nailpolish). Not only that, but the products were full-size as well. I’ve been using the cuticle oil almost every morning and evening and I’ve been really liking it. The applicator is a rollerball which makes for easy, no-mess usage. It seems to work pretty well — makes my cuticles very soft. I hope that with continuous use it will also improve the overall condition of my damaged cuticles.
- Elizabeth Arden PREVAGE Anti-Aging Triple Defense Shield Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 50
Sample Size: 5ml/0.17oz, $7.90 value
Full size: 50ml/1.7oz, $79
I had known about this company before receiving this item in this box but I never realized what their prices were like. Oh lala…. I’m totally flabbergasted. I mean, would anyone really pay that much money for a sunscreen? Maybe if it would make me look like a supermodel… I have to admit that I haven’t tried this product yet. I almost feel a little intimidated and like this sunscreen needs to be saved for a special occasion or something. However, should it turn out that I’m totally blown away by this product I’ll make sure to add a review.
- JULEP Nail Color
Size: 8ml/0.27oz, $14
This is my first nail polish by this company and I’ve heard great things about them so I was very excited to receive this one. The shade I got, Martha, is light baby-pink without any sparkle — very pretty. I can’t wait to try this on and add some pictures.
All in all I was very happy with this box and the value of the samples I received. The box contained quite a few products that I’ve been really excited to try. The total value was almost $70 and I paid $18 for it. What did you think of this limited edition Birchbox?
